The Green Man is the oldest public house in Essex. The Green Man is a beautifully restored 14th Century pub run by Sarah and family in the village of Howe Street.
We are proud to announce that we were in the top ten for Best Traditional Pub in the Essex food and drink awards, thanks for all your votes.

We promise you a warm welcome, a roaring open fire, fabulous music and a hearty homemade menu, along with Real Ales and a broad selection of fine wines. Pool and darts can be played in a separate bar. We are a child friendly public house.
All dishes where possible are homemade, including the children's menu, pate and chutney. Steak & chicken pies are specialties.
We often have events such as hog roasts and live music. We are happy to host private events, please see the events page for more information.
Wedding parties, intimate or larger. The 2.5 acres can be used for marquees and additional parking, we can provide the catering and bar.
Relax on warm summer days with a beer or pimms in our secluded garden. For children we have a slide and bouncy castle. We often have a barbeque (weather permitting).
Wikipedia says “The Green Man motif is primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, or "renaissance," representing the cycle of growth each spring. Some speculate that the mythology of the Green Man developed independently in the traditions of separate ancient cultures and evolved into the wide variety of examples found throughout history.”
